The Pune police are investigating a tragic pune accident involving a speeding Porsche driven by a 17-year-old, which resulted in the deaths of two young individuals. The driver was granted bail within 15 hours, raising questions about the handling of the case.

Fatal Porsche Pune Accident

On a fateful Saturday night in Pune, a speeding Porsche, driven by a 17-year-old, was involved in a severe accident that claimed the lives of two individuals in their 20s. The young driver, who was arrested soon after the incident, was granted bail just 15 hours later, causing public outcry and sparking a deeper investigation.

  • Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar explained to NDTV that efforts are underway to establish a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The focus is on proving that the driver was aware that his actions could result in death.
  • The juvenile driver, reportedly addicted to alcohol, claimed he was not in control of his faculties at the time of the accident. However, police are working to demonstrate that he was fully aware of the potential consequences of his reckless behavior.

Legal and Social Implications

The minor driver, son of a prominent realtor, is just four months shy of the legal driving age of 18. The Juvenile Justice Board granted him bail under specific conditions:

  • He must work with traffic police in Yerwada for 15 days.
  • Write an essay on accidents.
  • Undergo treatment for his drinking habit.
  • Attend counseling sessions.

Calls for Stricter Regulations

The incident has prompted Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to address concerns regarding the enforcement of age verification in pubs and restaurants. Fadnavis emphasized the need for stricter adherence to rules designed to prevent underage drinking.

  • “The police have been instructed to enforce rules formulated for liquor-serving establishments,” said the home minister, highlighting the broader issue of underage drinking and its potential consequences.

Political Reactions and Criticism

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has called for the removal of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar in light of the accident. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Raut accused the police of providing a misleading report and questioned the intentions behind the handling of the case.

  • “The Pune police commissioner should be sacked. Whom has he helped in this case? Two innocent persons lost their lives. The boy can be seen drinking in a pub,” Raut stated, expressing his dissatisfaction with the police response.
